What are Causes of Acne Vulgaris

Acne vulgaris may be caused by various factors. the cause of the is not known clearly, but there are several factors that can causes, such as: genetic, endocrine (androgen, pituitary sebotropic  factor, etc.), dietary factors, the activity of sebaceous glands, psychological factors, season, bacterial infection (Propionibacterium aknes), cosmetics, and chemicals other.

1. Sebum
Sebum is a major factor causing acne. in acne an increase in sebum. Increased sebum not only occur in
acne, but can also in Parkinson's disease and acromegaly.

2. Bacterium
Microbes involved in the onset of acne is Propionibacterium acnes, Stafilococcus epidermidis, and Pityrosporum ovale. Of the three microbes are the most important aknes Propionibacterium. This bacterium is a commensal bacteria on the skin. In the pathological state, these bacteria form colonies in the pilosebaceous duct, which stimulates release of triglycerides to free fatty acids, produce  emotactic substances on inflammatory cells, and induces ductal epithelium to secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines.

3. Hereditary
Hereditary factors are highly influential on the size and activity of the gland insolvent (sebaceous  glands). If both parents have acne scar marks, most likely his son will suffer from acne.

4. Hormone
Androgens from the testes, ovaries, and adrenal glands. These hormones cause the sebaceous glands increase in size and sebum production increases in young men and women. Hormone androgen is a major stimulus to the secretion of sebum by the sebaceous glands. In patients with acne, sebaceous gland responds very quickly to the increased levels of this hormone than normal. This may be caused by increased activity of 5a-reductase is higher in sebaceous glands than the other glands in the body.

5. Diet
In some patients, acne may be exacerbated by some foods, like chocolate, nuts, coffee and soft drinks.

6. Climate
In areas that have four seasons, acne usually intensified in the winter, and can also be increased by exposure to direct sunlight.

7. Iatrogenic factors
Both topical and systemic corticosteroids may increase polisebasea duct keratinization. Androgens, gonadotropins, and corticotropin can induce acne in young adults. Oral contraceptives can also induce the occurrence of acne.

  3. Sebum produced in the body finds no release since the pores are clogged and as a result starts accumulating beneath the skin. The accumulated sebum causes the area to become inflamed. The condition gets aggravated further as bacterial growth sets in. Growth of bacteria worsens the condition and the area becomes infected causing inflamed lesions to form.
